Carroll Independent Fuel, which operates 54 convenience stores under the High’s brand, in spring 2022 acquired seven sites from Baltimore-based GLES Inc. & Primo Properties LLC.

The company has acquired three leaseholds, allowing it to expand its footprint in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania. High’s plans to open and operate four additional sites in Bridgeville, Dagsboro, Dover and Selbyville, Del.

Carroll Motor Fuels is a fourth-generation family-owned business. It brands retail motor fuel stations under the BP, CITGO, Marathon and Sunoco flags, and under its own Carroll Motor Fuel retail brand. It also offers a complete inventory of commercial fuels.

The High’s brand was established in 1928 as an ice cream chain, growing rapidly throughout the Mid-Atlantic states. By the 1980s, there were more than 500 High’s locations. The Phelps family acquired High’s in 2012 and operates its stores with a team of more than 500 people.

For benchmarking purposes, store counts are as of Jan. 1, 2022.
