Grant Leathers is the new vice president of energy technology at Pilot Co., the company told CSP.

Leathers, who started in the position in July, comes to Knoxville, Tennessee-based Pilot from Orange, California-based SC Fuels, where he was the chief information officer starting in January 2019.

Pilot acquired SC Fuels in 2021.

“I have the privilege to lead the energy technology organization for Pilot Company,” Leathers wrote on his Linked In page. “Our team provides technology platforms and solutions that support our transportation and logistics, supply, wholesale, midstream, commercial trading, cardlock, short-truck, and lubricant business units. Collectively, these businesses supply over 14 billion gallons annually to Pilot Travel Centers and Pilot Energy customers. We keep America moving!”

  • Pilot Co. is No. 15 on CSP’s 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.

Prior to SC Fuels, Leathers for nearly three years was vice president of technology operations at El Segundo, California-based Beachbody, which provides wellness and fitness services.

Leathers also worked as senior director of strategic projects at Experian Consumer Services, Costa Mesa, California, from 2013 to 2015. Before that, he was senior director of enterprise infrastructure at Irvine, California-based Kelley Blue Book, from 2007 to 2012.

The hiring of Leathers comes after Pilot in May promoted Andy Lupo to chief technology officer, named Gary Hoogeveen the new president at Pilot Energy in April and hired Shannon Sturgil as senior vice president of alternative fuels in January.

Founded in 1958, Pilot Travel Centers LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway. It has approximately 900 locations in 44 states and six Canadian provinces, serving an average of 1.2 million customers per day. In addition to travel center services, Pilot and its partners offer trucking fleets a variety of solutions for fuel, credit, factoring, maintenance and rewards. The company operates the third largest fuel tanker fleet in North America and supplies approximately 12 billion gallons of fuel per year. Pilot is a major provider of biodiesel and renewable fuels and is developing an EV charging network and low-carbon fueling alternatives.
