Convenience store retailers Sheetz Inc., The Spinx Co. and The Wills Group (Dash In) are among the companies named to Fortune magazine and Great Place to Work’s Best Workplaces in Retail 2024 list.

Trailing only grocer Wegmans Food Markets, Sheetz garnered the No. 2 slot on the list of large employers, and Spinx took the No. 9 spot on that same list. Dash In ranked No. 9 on the small and medium company list.

This annual list highlights the top companies in the United States that have succeeded in business while also demonstrating outstanding respect, care and concern for their employees and their communities.

Sheetz

This is Altoona, Pennsylvania-based Sheetz’s ninth straight year being named to this list and its highest ranking ever.

“Being ranked second on this list, alongside highly respected and esteemed companies that also prioritize a positive workplace environment, is a significant accomplishment for us and not something that we take lightly,” said Travis Sheetz, president and CEO of Sheetz. “Our organization’s success has always been driven by our people, and we want to ensure that we’re creating a place where they feel valued and appreciated.”

The Best Workplaces in Retail ranking comes on the heels of Great Place to Work and People magazine naming Sheetz to this year’s Companies That Care list. Sheetz ranked ninth on this year’s list, the highest ranking the company has ever received on that list.

Established in 1952, Sheetz has more than 26,000 employees. The company operates more than 750 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina and Michigan.

Spinx

Greenville, South Carolina-based Spinx, which began in 1972 as a home heating oil delivery service and one convenience store, operates 86 locations. The newest c-stores have full-service kitchens. The company employs more than 1,400 associates through its stores, food operations and related businesses.

Last fall, Spinx ranked No. 7 on the Great Place to Work list of top employers in the United States for women. To obtain the ranking, Spinx had to be certified through Fortune, have a certain percentage of women respond to a survey and obtain a certain number of positive responses from the survey.

In August 2022, the c-store chain was named the No. 1 Best Place to Work in South Carolina by SCBIZ magazine and the Best Companies Group.

Dash In

Dash In, a Wills Group company, made theBest Workplaces in Retail list for the second consecutive year.

“This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to creating an exceptional workplace culture,” said Blackie Wills, president and CEO of The Wills Group. “Our commitment to the Dash In guest experience begins with our employees. They are the reason the Wills Group is so passionate about creating an environment where employees can thrive.”
