The Terrible Herbst convenience-store chain grew by seven new-to-industry units in 2020, and it plans to add 15 or more this year. As of Jan. 1, it owned and operated 148 c-stores and 60 car washes in Nevada, California, Arizona and Utah.

Most stores include a Mrs. Terrible's Gaming Lounge with slot machines owned by sister company JETT Gaming. The chain was founded in 1959 by Jerry Herbst, who died in 2018. Sons Ed, Tim and Troy continue to run the businesses.

The chain is widely known for its mustachioed mascot and giant American flags.

For benchmarking purposes, store counts are as of Jan. 1, 2021.
