Sheetz Adds First Location in Rocky Mount, N.C.

26th location in Tar Heel State

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. has continued to expand its footprint in North Carolina with the opening of a new store in Rocky Mount. This latest addition to the chain makes 26 stores in the Tar Heel State.

The new store offers fresh food items like the MTGo! and Shweetz Bakery lines of sandwiches, wraps, donuts and muffins, along with the signature Made To Order (MTO) line of Angus beef burgers, premium grilled chicken sandwiches, freshly made salads, French fries, onion rings and more.

Sheetz Bros. Coffeez, a full-service espresso and smoothie bar staffed by a [image-nocss] trained barista, is going to be available at the new store. Customers can order handmade specialty coffee drinks including lattes, cappuccinos and mochashot, frozen or iced.

"North Carolina is a relatively new market for us and we are thrilled that people there have enjoyed the experience of being in our stores," said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz Inc. "We have developed fun, new ways to show our devotion to our customers. We think we've struck a chord with our food and beverages and a loyalty program that have people coming back for more every day."

Jamie Gerhart, who works for the retailer's development division in Raleigh, N.C., told the The Mineral Daily News in May that Sheetz has been interested in expanding into Rocky Mount for some time. "Geographically, it fits into where we currently operate. We've looked at Rocky Mount from the very beginning of our expansion into North Carolina," he said.

Sheetz is also proud of its history of giving back to the communities in which it operates, it said. The company has been a proud supporter of Special Olympics since 1992, making monetary and product contributions as well as providing event volunteers.

In keeping with this tradition, the company made a donation to Special Olympics North Carolina as part of the store opening celebration on June 18.

With more than $3.7 billion in revenue for 2009 and more than 13,000 employees, Sheetz operates more than 360 convenience locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.
