10,000-Gallon Discount

Detroit retailer returns lottery winnings to customers
DETROIT -- A Detroit gas-station owner has found what he calls the best way to show appreciation for his customers after one of them won a $1-million lottery prize last week. Kayed Bazzi, the owner of a BP gas station, received a $2,000 commission from the state lottery for selling the winning ticket, and in recognition, this Wednesday he will sell 10,000 gallons of discounted gasoline at his station.

The discount will work this way: He will sell it for 20 cents per gallon below the cost to him from the supplier, Bazzi, 51, of Dearborn, Mich., told the Detroit Free Press.[image-nocss]

"For instance, today the price is $1.69; my cost is $1.60," he said. "I'm going to sell it for $1.40."

Bazzi said his customers mean a lot to him, and he understands that many of them are struggling to make ends meet. "It's a rough time, and I'm giving back in appreciation for my customers," he said.

The gas station will begin selling the discounted gas at 8 a.m., Bazzi said.
