In the past five years, Alimentation Couche-Tard (ATC), the parent company of the Circle K convenience-store brand, has consistently built its footprint with acquisitions.

On Monday, Laval, Quebec-based ATC reached a definitive agreement to acquire GetGo Café + Markets convenience stores, Pittsburgh, from supermarket retailer Giant Eagle Inc.

The move follows Couche-Tard’s submission today of a friendly, nonbinding proposal to Seven & i Holdings Co. Ltd., the parent company of 7-Eleven Inc., Irving, Texas, to acquire all outstanding shares of Seven & i.

On the mergers-and-acquisitions (M&A) front, Couche-Tard would “love to do more in the U.S., which is probably our best market for synergies, and then being opportunistic in Canada and Europe,” Brian Hannasch, president and CEO of Alimentation Couche-Tard, said during the company’s fiscal third-quarter 2024 earnings call in March. “The deal flow has been good, probably the best I've seen in four or five years in terms of the number of opportunities that are out there in front of us.”

The following timeline walks through Couch-Tard's acquisition history dating back to January 2020.
