True North Energy operates truenorth, a chain of large-format convenience stores operating in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. In 2023, the chain purchased Medina, Ohio-based Free Enterprises, which included four convenience stores, a wholesale fuel business and a dealer network. True North also acquired 19 stores in 2021 with the acquisition of Titletown Oil Corp., Green Bay, Wisconsin, and 25 stores in 2019 with the purchase of Schmuckal Oil Co., Traverse City, Michigan.

The company strives to offer friendly and fast service in a clean, safe and modern environment. A large selection of grab-and-go food items are available, including sandwiches, wraps, yogurt, vegetables and dip and fruit. The truebrew coffee station offers several freshly prepared pots of coffee and the trueoasis fountain beverage station features soft drinks and frozen slushy drinks.

Many truenorth sites also offer Lightning Wash car washes, regularly featuring Wacky Wednesday buy-one-get-one-free wash promotions. It also offers the Shell Giving Pump charitable promotion and the Scrip gift card program for nonprofit organizations to buy, sell and use in store, at the pump or at the car wash.
