Fifty-four percent of consumers and 70% of millennials said they’re interested in purchasing prepared food or beverages infused with cannabidiol (CBD) from convenience stores, according to Technomic. Specifically, most customers said they would be interested in buying cold prepared beverages (67%), hot prepared beverages (62%) and baked goods (59%) that include CBD.

While the CBD regulatory landscape remains hazy, retailers may be able to do this sooner than later. On Jan. 13, a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced a bill that, if approved, would amend the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act to include CBD in the definition of dietary supplements. It would allow CBD to be marketed in food, beverages and nutritional supplements.
