Wawa is building six convenience stores in Georgia and five c-stores in Florida.

  • Wawa is No. 9 on CSP’s 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by total number of company-owned stores.

Additionally, Wawa expects to open 10 new c-stores in North Carolina this year, about 40 new c-stores in North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana in 2025 and as many as 250 c-stores within the next five to 10 years in the states.

Wawa, based in Wawa, Pennsylvania, has approximately 1,050 locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Alabama and Washington, D.C.

Georgia

Two of the new Georgia locations will open this fall, according to the Savannah Morning News. Construction on these locations began in March, and they are the first two stores in the state.

One will be located at Brunswick at U.S. 341 and Community Road and another will be in Bainbridge at 356 W. Orange St.

Two more will open near the start of 2025 in Bainbridge at U.S. 84 and U.S. 27 and in Hinesville at East General Stewart Way and East Oglethorpe Highway.

Another two will open a few months later in Pooler at Pooler Parkway and Pine Barren Road and in Hinesville at Veterans Parkway and Elma G. Miles Parkway.

Wawa has further plans for southern and coastal Georgia with more sites under contract in Brunswick, Jesup, Hinesville, Pooler, Waycross, Bainbridge, Tifton, Valdosta and Albany. Over the next five to eight years, 26 new stores will be developed in southern and coastal Georgia, with Wawa opening three to four stores per year.

Florida

The five new Florida stores will be located in Escambia County, according to NorthEscambia.com.

Plans were approved were October 2023 for a 6,119-square-foot location at the corner of Beulah Road and Nine Mile Road. Site work is currently underway on the 17.36-acre parcel across Nine Mile Road from Publix, according to the news site.

The chain held a groundbreaking ceremony in April to mark the start of construction of a Wawa store at Ransley Station at Pine Forest Road and Sharon Lane, just north of Interstate 10, and the company expects it to open by the end of 2024.

A third Wawa store was approved by the county in May for 9262 West Highway 98 at Blue Angel Parkway.

The Escambia County Development Review Committee approved a plan in June for another planned Wawa at 8503 North Davis Highway, near Johnson Avenue and HCA West Florida Hospital.

A fifth Wawa has been proposed for 6650 Pensacola Boulevard at West Street. This location is still in the review process before the Escambia County Development Review Committee
