Salty snacks in 2023 enjoyed another banner year of growth. Potato chips logged a 13.6% dollar-growth trajectory, with units up 3.4%, according to Circana. Double-digit sales growth was realized by most subsegments: tortilla/tostada chips (13.5%), cheese snacks (15.1%), other salted snacks/no nuts (14.4%), corn snacks/no tortilla chips (20.2%), nutritional/intrinsic health value bars (14.8%) and pretzels (13.1%). Sweet snacks flashed consistent dollar growth across all six core sectors in 2023, but units faltered from 2022 in all but one segment—cookies, which grew units 2.6% while dollar sales flourished at 18.4%, according to Circana. The data below is c-store sales for the 52 weeks ending Dec. 31, 2023.

The consolidated snack bar/granola bar/clusters category grew sales 13.3% in 2023, with total unit sales relatively flat at 0.6%, according to Circana. Within the nutritional/intrinsic/health bar segment, eight of the top 10 brands flashed positive dollars, paced by Barebells (333.4% growth) and Chef Robert Irvine's FitCrunch, up 100.9%.
