Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk, Eat the Taco

Rutter's rolls out "walking tacos," soft shell tacos, snack wraps

YORK, Pa. -- Rutter's Farm Stores has announced several new items to be added to its menu this week--soft shell tacos, snack wraps and the south central Pennsylvania favorite, walking tacos.

A longtime preference at area high school sporting events, walking tacos eliminate the mess associated with traditional taco shells. Says Rutter's VP of Food Service; "It's a taco you can eat with a fork. It's very user-friendly."

The walking tacos will be made fresh and served in a one-oz. bag of Doritos. Each customer can choose from taco meat, lettuce, shredded cheese, salsa, hot sauce, onion, black olives, diced tomato and green peppers as toppings. Customers can add sour cream, extra taco meat and extra cheese for an additional cost. Depending on which toppings are chosen, each walking taco will be between two ounces and four ounces.

If customers prefer a more traditional form, they can order a soft shell taco, also introduced this week. Customers can add any of the toppings from those available with the walking taco.

Rutter's has rounded out the latest menu additions with snack wraps. The snack wraps are available in fried chicken, grilled chicken, cheeseburger, meatball and sausage egg and cheese. Customers will be able to top their wraps with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, black olives, pickles and jalapeno peppers and each wrap will be made fresh with every order.

In other company news, Rutter's recently announced the latest winners in the Register, Scan & Win contest.

Linda McDannell of Hanover, Pa., was February's grand prizewinner of a 47-inch flat-screen TV. Four Rutter's customers won a month of free Rutter's gasoline in the monthly prize drawing.

According to Rutter's chief customer officer Jeff Leedy, there will be eight winners of free gasoline for a month awarded each month for the remainder of the year.

Free gasoline was just one of many great prizes given away to Rutter's customers this month. Coupons for free coffee, macaroni and cheese and discounted car washes, cents-off-per-gallon rewards added to winners' Rutter's Rewards cards, gift cards were just a few of the prizes other Rutter's customers took home this month, said the company.

York, Pa.-based Rutter's Farm Stores is a 3rd generation, family-owned business with 57 stores located in 5 counties throughout Central Pennsylvania.
