CHICAGO  Retailers can create buzz, add an element of fun to their convenience stores—and possibly sell extra items—by creating a promotion out of food and beverage containers.

Speaking of buzz, Coors Light recently debuted the Coors Light Thirst Trap, a mosquito catcher “designed to rid your summer days of pesky bugs,” the company said.

When a beer is nearly empty, the user, sacrificing a few sips to lure mosquitos, snaps the Thirst Trap, which Coors Light is selling online for $5, on top of a 12-ounce can.

Once the mosquitos enter the trap, they can't escape, the company said.

"Warm weather, outdoor activities and laid-back chilling are some of the reasons why summer is undeniably the best season of the year. But with the good also comes the bad, and pesky mosquitoes can be a buzzkill,” said Marcelo Pascoa, Coors vice president of marketing.
