Circle K is marking the first anniversary of its exclusive Mtn Dew Purple Thunder flavor with a Froster offering.

The frozen beverage, which combines berry and plum, has the same sweet yet tangy taste of the original version, which was released in 2022.

“Dew Nation’s overwhelming approval of Purple Thunder at Circle K inspired us to offer it as one of our fan-favorite Froster flavors,” said David Hall, vice president global foodservice at Circle K, owned by Laval, Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. “We’re excited to celebrate and have big plans for Mtn Dew Purple Thunder, including a ‘Thunderversary’ celebration starting in May.”

  • Alimentation Couche-Tard is No. 2 on CSP’s 2023 Top 40 update to the 2022 Top 202 ranking of convenience store chains by store count. Watch for the full 2023 Top 202 in June.

Mtn Dew Purple Thunder had a very successful first year at Circle K,” said Hugh Roth, senior vice president of sales and chief customer officer at PepsiCo Foodservice. “Our fans expressed how much they love this exclusive flavor and in tandem with its one-year anniversary, we wanted to go big by delivering fans Purple Froster in Froster.”

In addition to Froster, Mtn Dew Purple Thunder is also via Polar Pop dispensed beverages and in 20-ounce bottles exclusively at Circle K locations nationwide.

Mtn Dew, made by PepsiCo North American Beverages, Purchase, N.Y., had several flavor releases in 2022, including:

  • Overdrive, a citrus taste with hints of mango, raspberry and lime, available only at Ankeny, Iowa-based Casey’s General Stores.
  • Six flavors from its vault as part of its Outpost Flavor Adventure at Doe Mountain in Tennessee: Apple Cinnamon, Dill Pickle, S’mores, Elderberry, Huckleberry, and Summer Popsicle.
  • Fruit Quake, another LTO featuring the taste of a holiday fruitcake.

Couche-Tard’s 24-country network includes more than 7,100 in the United States, primarily under the Circle K and Holiday Stationstores banners, and approximately 2,100 in Canada under the Circle K, Mac’s and Couche-Tard banners. In Europe, under the Circle K and other banners, Couche-Tard operates a retail network in Scandinavia, Ireland, Poland, the Baltics and Russia with more than 2,700 stores and unmanned automated fuel stations. And under licensing agreements, more than 2,200 stores operate under the Circle K banner in 15 other countries and territories (Cambodia, Egypt, Guam, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Jamaica, Macau, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam). This brings Couche-Tard’s total worldwide network to approximately 14,300 mostly Circle K-branded stores.
