A fire broke out at the original Buc-ee’s travel center in Luling, Texas, on Monday morning, reported News 4 San Antonio. The store, which opened in 2003, is not the new Buc-ee’s location that opened in Luling on June 10.

Citing the Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management, the news outlet said crews were on the scene of the fire in the area of Interstate 10 and U.S. Highway 183 in Luling.

According to the Gonzales Inquirer, multiple departments responded to the fire, but it was not a danger to the new Buc-ee’s.

“This morning, during the demolition of the old building in Luling, there was a fire. Buc-ee’s new store was not damaged, and all of the award-winning clean restrooms are available,” Jeff Nadalo, general counsel for Buc-ee’s, told CSP.

Buc-ee’s Ltd. opened the new Luling travel center on June 10, its largest to date at more than 75,000 square feet. It beat out the more than 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee’s in Sevierville, Tennessee, which opened in June 2023.

Located at 10070 I-10, the new Luling site offers 120 fueling positions. In the store, it offers thousands of snack, meal and drink options. Buc-ee’s staples including Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries also are available.

Buc-ee’s on June 24 opened a travel center in Smiths Grove, Kentucky. It is the second Buc-ee’s in the Bluegrass State. The Richmond location opened in April 2022.

At 4001 Smiths Grove-Scottsville Road, the Smiths Grove Buc-ee’s occupies 53,000 square feet and offers 120 fueling positions.

  • Buc-ee’s is No. 118 on CSP’s 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.

Since beginning its multi-state expansion in 2019, Buc-ee’s has opened travel centers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and Colorado. Buc-ee’s broke ground on the first Virginia and Mississippi locations earlier this year.

Founded in 1982, Lake Jackson, Texas-based Buc-ee’s now has 35 stores across Texas, including the world’s largest convenience store, as well as 15 locations in other states.
