R.J. Reynolds Transforms Tobacco Legislative Website

Recently, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. announced that its non-corporate website www.nocigtax.com, which was intended to educate tobacco wholesalers and retailers about tobacco legislative tax issues, has been officially transformed and the new website is www.transformtobacco.com.

The new website continues to provide updated information on proposed cigarette tax increases and the impact that such higher taxes will have on retailers. In addition, an interactive state map provides information for each state on proposed cigarette and other tobacco product tax increases, illicit trade of cigarettes, smoking restrictions, bans on vapor (electronic cigarette products), tobacco harm reduction and prevention of tobacco sales to underage youth. By clicking on a particular state on the map, the visitor is provided with background on pending legislation, facts on the dollar amount of cigarette taxes being collected by that state and a link to send an e-mail message directly to the visitor’s own state representative and state senator.

Also, the website allows visitors to quickly connect with their specific state legislators through a toll-free call. Personal contact with state lawmakers is critically important for retailers and adult consumers to let their voice be heard on tobacco-related issues. This kind of grassroots participation in the legislative process is so important so that lawmakers hear from those constituents that will be directly impacted by tobacco tax increases or other tobacco-related legislation.
