Rutter's Receives Community Awards

Retailer honored by York County Chamber of Commerce, Arc of York County
YORK, Pa. -- Two York County, Pa., organizations have honored the Rutter's companies for their community involvement. On April 28, Rutter's will accept the 2010 Community Service Award at the York County Chamber of Commerce's "Spirit of York" breakfast. The award recognizes an organization for having a culture that motivates its employees to be personally involved in community service.

"Rutter's has been a strong champion of the community," said Bob Jensenius, executive vice president of the chamber of commerce. He cited Rutter's as a "strong supporter" of the chamber's [image-nocss] high school senior honors award program.

Meanwhile, The Arc of York County recently presented its Ernest R. Weiss Award to Rutter's Farm Stores for "outstanding fundraising and philanthropy benefiting people with intellectual disabilities."

Since 2000, coin canisters placed in Rutter's stores have collected more than $40,000 for The Arc.

Begun in 1952, The Arc is dedicated to improving the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and their families in York County.

Rutter's charitable giving has topped $2 million over the past seven years, the company said. Almost all of the contributions benefit children's programs in the communities where Rutter's operates.

Family-owned and third-generation managed, the Rutter's companies comprise Rutter's Farm Stores, Rutter's Dairy and M&G Realty, a real estate development company. York-based Rutter's operates 54 convenience stores in Pennsylvania.
