Rutter's Helping Troops

Sending Valentine's Day boxes to loved ones serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait
YORK, Pa. -- Rutter's and the nonprofit Support Our American Recruits (SOAR) again are teaming up to send Valentine's Day goodie boxes to area troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan or Kuwait. The organizations plan to send approximately 50 boxes, each containing enough items for a military unit of 15 to 20 people.

The boxes will be filled with items including salted snacks, candy, chewing gum and Valentine's Day cards. A number of Rutter's vendors donated items for the boxes.

Area residents who have a loved one serving in one of the three countries are being asked to [image-nocss] submit his or her name by Tuesday, January 20, to Becky Bair, executive director of SOAR, at 717-235-2766 or at rabair2@verizon.net. Requests will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis, she said.

SOAR (www.supportouramericanrecruits.com) was founded in York County, Pa. Its mission is to support troops serving at home and overseas, honor veterans and provide a support group for family members of the troops.

Family-owned and third-generation managed, York County-based Rutter's operates 55 convenience stores in York, Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Lancaster counties.
