Quick Chek LEEDs in Bayonne

Overall energy use at store set to open August 17 expected to be more than 15% lower

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- Quick Chek, with more than 120 fresh food convenience stores located throughout New Jersey and southern New York, said that its newest store, located at in Bayonne, N.J., has been constructed with energy-saving methods designed to achieve Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

The announcement illustrates Quick Chek's commitment to the use of power and energy-efficient solutions, it said, most recently through its installation of energy-generating solar panels on top of the roof of its Customer Support Center [image-nocss] at its headquarters in Whitehouse Station, N.J.

Defined by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED-certified structures use less energy, water and natural resources; create less waste; and are more comfortable and healthy.

Quick Chek's new Bayonne store features LED (light-emitting diode) lighting which use approximately 80% less wattage than traditional fluorescent lighting; low-flow plumbing fixtures that help reduce water consumption by more than 35% along with decreasing the amount of wastewater generated; and low volatile organic compound (VOC) construction materials which help provide maximum air quality.

In addition, more than 80% of construction waste generated during the building of Quick Chek's Bayonne location was taken to a recycling facility helping to reduce impact on landfills.

"Since our company's inception, Quick Chek has remained an industry leader in the exploration and implementation of energy conservation methods such as the use of energy management refrigeration systems and LED lighting packages," said Quick Chek director of engineering Rick Wisler. "We are proud to report overall energy use at our newest store is expected to be more than 15% lower than a typical building of similar size."

The store will celebrate its grand opening on August 17 at 5:00 a.m.; it will offer customers free coffee, and kids under five feet tall free fountain drinks, during the store's first 13 days in business (August 17 to August 29).

It will open its doors following a special Quick Chek Coffee Toast ceremony on August 16 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Local officials, community members and store representatives will gather to grind, brew and pour the very first cup of Quick Chek's coffee, known throughout its operating region for its 20-minute freshness guarantee.

Managed by store leader Angelo Perito, Quick Chek's new store will include its signature coffee bar, made-to-order fresh sub shop, soup bar offering a variety of choices daily, bakery items made fresh every day, a no-fee ATM center and 10 fueling positions.

And, during its first 30 days of operation, from August 17 to September 15, Quick Chek will thank the local community for its warm welcome by donating 25 cents for every sub, sandwich and wrap sold to the Bayonne Little League.

Quick Chek is a market leader in foodservice with a fresh coffee and fresh food program. Operating more than 120 retail locations in New Jersey and southern New York, Quick Chek's locations include 12 pharmacy stores and 26 locations with fuel.
