Gilbarco wins 2008 Microsoft Partner Excellence Award for Passport

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Microsoft's OEM Embedded Sales Division has named Gilbarco as the winner of its Partner Excellence Award for Microsoft Specialized Service Products. The award recognizes the technical excellence of Gilbarco's application of the Microsoft platform in its fully integrated Passport point-of-sale (POS) system.

The implementation uses Windows Server for Embedded Systems that work seamlessly with devices running on Windows XP Embedded and Windows XP Professional for Embedded Systems. Microsoft handed out the award at its Tech-Ed Developer Conference on June 4.

"[image-nocss] The Windows Embedded Partner Excellence Awards recognize the invaluable contribution partners make to our business through outstanding customer service and innovative uses of Windows Embedded technologies," said Ilya Bukshteyn, director of marketing for the Windows Embedded Business at Microsoft. "I would like to extend my congratulations and thank each of the 2008 award winners for their commitment to excellence in customer service."

"This recognition of our technical leadership from Microsoft comes just as we commissioned our 3,000th Passport point-of-sale system at a Signal Foods Store in Mansfield, Mo.," said Greg Davis, Gilbarco's marketing manager for POS systems. "These two milestones in the same week demonstrate Gilbarco's outstanding technical execution combined with success in the market. We are very proud of both Microsoft's and our customers' response to Passport."

Passport POS system provides an intuitive touchscreen interface that minimizes training time, errors and shrinkage. It provides connectivity and standardization, business information and security features, business growth tools and expandability. Passport is approved on all major networks to benefit multi-branded retailers, the company said.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Gilbarco Veeder-Root is a major supplier of retail and commercial fueling and payment technology, integrated fuel control, site management and support services for petroleum marketers and commercial fueling enterprises worldwide.
