Pinnacle Rolls Out Frictionless Checkout Tool

Mobile app allows consumers to check out items as they shop

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Pinnacle has launched a mobile-based tool to reduce friction at checkout, Affiniti PickUp & Go.

The app allows consumers to scan their items as they shop using their mobile device. Once consumers have scanned all of the items they plan to purchase, they can pay immediately from within the app. The consumer can then show an employee their receipt and they can leave without waiting in line at the checkout counter.

“Today there is a loyal generation that thinks hyper-local and prioritizes frictionless payment solutions when they make their purchases. Pinnacle’s Affiniti Cloud Solutions do more than allow you to connect with the emerging customer base, but also allow you to learn about them from their data. Tools like this allow you to broaden your customer bandwidth,” said Darryl Erby, technology sales executive for Pinnacle.

Pinnacle’s new platform also includes Cashier Monitor, a tool that allows employees to track which consumers are scanning what items. Employees can use a tablet or other mobile device to watch a dashboard that identifies the shopper and shows the employee what the shopper is scanning in real time.

Additionally, stores can program the tool to show an on-screen animation with the receipt so that employees can quickly verify that a consumer has purchased their items. PickUp & Go can also integrate with loyalty programs and coupons and serve as a mobile ordering and pickup tool for curbside or pump-side delivery.

Pinnacle is the latest of a slew of companies in and beyond the convenience petroleum industry to roll out frictionless payment tools for shoppers. Affiniti PickUp & Go is most similar to Skip Checkout, which recently announced plans to launch its mobile checkout platform in 3,000 stores by 2019. Skip made the announcement shortly after a report was released indicating that Amazon is considering opening 3,000 Amazon Go locations by 2021. The frictionless checkout arms race has officially begun.
