Gilbarco Veeder-Root's contactless card option completes MasterCard approval

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Contactless Card Option has obtained approval from MasterCard that it complies with the MasterCard PayPass specifications.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root is the first manufacturer of retail fueling equipment to obtain this approval, it said.

The Gilbarco Veeder-Root product enables gasoline dispensers equipped with CRINDCard Reader In Dispenserto read MasterCard PayPass contactless cards.

The Gilbarco Contactless Card Option is available as a factory-installed option or [image-nocss] retrofit kit for current production models Encore and Eclipse and as a retrofit kit for The Advantage series dispensers.

The product was installed at 3,100 fueling positions at more than 300 convenience stores this spring as part of the retail petroleum industry's first chainwide deployment for Sheetz Inc. of Altoona, Pa., Gilbarco Veeder-Root said.

Using MasterCard PayPass cards, consumers are able to pay for purchases at the dispenser by tapping their card on, or holding their card near the a specially equipped terminal to complete a payment transaction. This eliminates the need for customers to hand over their payment card to a store employee, manually swipe it through a reader, or find cash and coins.

The Gilbarco Veeder-Root Contactless Card system was tested at FIME of Caen, France. FIME verified the Gilbarco product for digital, analog and application compliance with MasterCard PayPass specifications.
