MFA Oil Foundation Provides Grants

Two California, Mo., organizations awarded $2,000 each
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Grants have been awarded to two local organizations by the MFA Oil Foundation, according to a report by The California Democrat. The foundation was established in 1998 and provides support for nonprofit organizations that are working to improve communities where MFA Oil has a significant concentration of members and employees.

California Progress Inc. (CPI), California, Mo., received $2,000 to purchase additional sound equipment for the newly renovated Finke Theatre, said the report. Although the theater is in operation and the opening event was [image-nocss] held Saturday evening, work remains to be done. It is expected to seat about 380 when completed.

The California Nutrition Center, also based in California, Mo., received a grant of $2,000 to help with the purchase of a backup generator for the facility, the report added. According to James Canter, board president, the center's designation as a heat and cold shelter in the city makes a back-up generator necessary.

MFA Oil president Jerry Taylor told the newspaper that the foundation is "a program that allows our company to given support back to the small towns and communities that are the foundation of our business." He said there are three areas of focus for selecting grant recipientsprograms to build knowledge and leadership skills of rural youth; agricultural and cooperative education programs; and organizations active in addressing and solving community problems and improving the quality of life.

Columbia, Mo.-based MFA Oil is a farmer-owned cooperative with more than 40,000 members. The company supplies fuels, lubricants, propane and tires to customers in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa. Through a subsidiary, MFA Oil operates Break Time convenience store in Missouri and Arkansas and Jiffy Lube and Big O Tire franchises in central Missouri.
