Maritime Farms Golf Outing Raises Funds for MDA

Tom's donates 25 cents for every coffee, fountain purchase through September 4
ROCKLAND, Maine -- Maritime Energy and Maritime Farms held their 16th-annual golf outing on June 2 at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine, to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Maritime said it raised $12,650 from the day's events.

Maritime is one of the largest supporters of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the state of Maine. The money Maritime contributes stays in the state of Maine.

Over its 16-year involvement with MDA, Maritime has raised more than $300,000 through golf outings, shamrock sales, cruises and jail and bails.

"We want [image-nocss] to make a difference and we feel we're doing the right thing. We are committed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and will continue to provide the energy and hope until a cure is found to help those afflicted by Muscular Dystrophy. We're extremely thankful for our customers, employees, CITGO Petroleum, and business partners who faithfully support our efforts," said vice president Susan G. Ware.

Rockland, Maine-based Maritime, which began in 1939 as a Rockland service station and local heating oil distributor named Maritime Oil Co., is celebrating 70 years in business this month. The firm has grown to a multifaceted energy, service and convenience store business serving Knox, Lincoln, and Waldo counties in Maine.

The company held a customer appreciation day on June 18. Radio station 105.5 Frank FM kicked off the festivities: live music by Playing Possum, birthday cake, raffles, a trivia contest and light fare.

Separately, Tom's Convenience Stores, the retail arm of Shipley Energy, York, Pa., said it will donate 25 cents for every cup of Tom's Java coffee and Big Fizz fountain soda sold from July 1 to September 4 to the Reid Menzer Memorial Skatepark.

The park opened in September 2008 and is named for Reid Menzer, who died in 2006 when he was struck by a car in York while riding a street luge board.
