The c-store on wheels is open 6:45 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. when school is in session. It offers a variety of items, including:
Kelly Fankhauser, owner of Wichita-based Overland Charters, is also working with a food vendor to get sandwiches added to the lineup, said the report.
Overland Charters runs the university’s shuttle bus service.
The c-store bus was a Hertz airport shuttle bus that Fankhauser bought online and gutted.
“I just have seen all the food trucks in town, and I knew I didn’t want to be cooking a lot, so I thought, ‘Why not a convenience store?’ ” Fankhauser told The Wichita Eagle. “We thought we’d do something that the students could really benefit from.”
So far, the mobile c-store is exclusive to WSU. The university has a food-truck plaza in partnership with the Wichita Food Truck Coalition to feature a rotation of area vendors.
Overland Charters is holding a contest to name the store. The winner will get free drinks for the month of October.
