Funds Fore MDA

Mansfield Oil, Maritime Energy golf events benefit charity
GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Mansfield Oil held the 22nd Annual MDA Golf Classic on June 17 and raised $225,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The Mansfield Oil 22nd Annual Golf Classic is the largest MDA golf tournament in the Southeast.

"We are thrilled with the outcome of the event," said J. Alexander, president of Mansfield Oil. "To hit the $2 million mark for MDA is quite an achievement and surpasses our wildest expectations."

Last week, a total of 239 golfers participated at the Chateau lan Winery & Resort in Braselton, Ga. In the past two decades, Mansfield [image-nocss] Oil has raised more than $2 million for the MDA cause, an eighth of which was contributed by this event alone.

UPS was the golf tournament's title sponsor and hosted a VIP reception at The Legends Clubhouse with more than 100 guests. "The tournament grows every year because there is such high retention when it comes to sponsorsthere's no need for scrambling at the beginning of each year, looking for new contributors," said Tim Mosier, manager at UPS. "Every year we just add a new layer to the success of the previous event. It's quite remarkable."

Highlights of the UPS VIP reception included exclusive access to the Legends course, a visit from UPS NASCAR driver No. 44 David Reutimann, and hosting by Fox 5 Atlanta Chief Meteorologist Ken Cook. The guest speaker was former Major League pitcher and Baseball Hall of Famer Phil Niekro, who pitched 20 seasons for the Atlanta Braves.

The Mansfield Oil 23rd Annual Golf Classic is scheduled for mid-May 2009.

Gainesville, Ga.-based Mansfield is a fuel supply, distribution and logistics company focused on improving efficiencies in the downstream petroleum supply chain. The company delivers motor fuels nationwide to commercial, industrial, government and retail customers.

Separately, Maritime Energy/Farms held its 15th Annual Golf Outing on June 10 at the Samoset Resort to benefit MDA. Maritime said it raised $14,900 from the day's events. Maritime is one of the largest supporters of MDA in the state of Maine.

The money Maritime Energy/Farms contributed will stay in the state of Maine.

Rockland, Maine-based Maritime has raised more than $250,000 to date through golf outings, shamrock sales, cruises and jail and bails.

"We want to make a difference and we feel we're doing the right thing. We are committed to the [MDA] and will continue to provide the energy and hope until a cure is found to help those afflicted by muscular dystrophy. We're extremely thankful for our customers, employees, CITGO Petroleum and business partners who faithfully support our efforts," said vice president Susan G. Ware.
