The revised ADA regulations are expected to go into effect this month, coinciding with the commemoration of the ADA's 20th anniversary.
The [image-nocss] ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, government, public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation and telecommunications. Among other things, the act requires convenience stores and self-serve gas stations to provide equal access to their customers with disabilities. To help fuel retailers comply with these regulations, including new ADA design standards, NACS has advised members planning new construction projects to install fuel dispensers with a 48-inch reach range.
Dresser Wayne has engineered the Ovation fuel dispenser to comply with the new ADA design standards. It features user controls placed at a maximum height of 42-inches, which results in a 48-inch reach range when mounted on a six-inch curb, for wheelchair-accessible customer interaction.
"Fuel retailers have a lot to think about in making and keeping their businesses compliant with the ADA and accessible to their disabled customers," said Mike Simmons, director of Dresser Wayne's dispenser product management. "We can help them by staying ahead of the curve and designing and building dispensers that address the changing regulatory landscape."
In that regard, Dresser Wayne has designed the Ovation fuel dispenser to comply with rigorous International Building Code (IBC) standards for performance, safety and accessibility; and, to be ready for the future of payment-security, as well. The Ovation fuel dispenser includes the future-proof iX Technology platform, which supports iX Pay secure payment; an upgradeable payment terminal equipped to meet future regulations for the protection of customers' financial data.
Retailers can benefit not only from these compliance solutions, but also from the iX Media in-dispenser digital video display, which provides enhanced merchandising capabilities to help them stay competitive in today's marketplace.
