Bosselman Buying 15 Flying J Service Centers

And Love's expanding Aurora, Neb., tire facility
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Convenience and truckstop retailer Bosselman Inc., Grand Island, Neb., is buying 15 J-Care Service Centers from Flying J Inc. This will give Bosselman Boss Shops 25 truck service centers in 18 states, according to The Standard-Examiner.

"We're working to broaden our footprint across the country in the truck repair business," president Chuck Bosselman said in a news release cited by the newspaper. "The trucking industry is constantly looking for repair facilities that they can trust to do their over-the-road work for them, and after 61 years [image-nocss] in the industry, Boss Shops are targeting that need through quality service and competitive pricing."

In addition to the Ogden location, Bosselman said his firm is buying J Care Service Centers in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Texas, Arizona, Califonria, North Dakota, Idaho and Arizona.

Ogden, Utah-based Flying J filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December and announced a preliminary merger agreement with Knoxville, Tenn.-based Pilot Travel Centers LLC in July. (Click here for previous CSP Daily News coverage.)

Separately, Oklahoma City-based Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores has announced plans to expand its six-year-old-tire care facility in Aurora, Neb., reported The Aurora News-Register. Opened initially in 2003 as the anchor of the 40-acre Woodard Subdivision, the Love's travel center has performed at or above the company's expectations, prompting a recent decision to add a small tire facility on site.

Love's communications director Jenny Love Meyer told the newspaper that 30 locations around the country have or will soon be adding the tire care facilities. "This is a fairly new venture for our company," she said. "It is an adjacent business to ours, where truck drivers who are either on the highway and have a flat tire or need replacement tires will be able to have that done right there at our location."

Construction is well under way on a 1,200-sq.-ft. two-bay facility on the northwest corner of Love's 10-acre property. If all goes as planned, the facility will open in October, said the report.

"We felt this was a needed service and it fit in with our model, which is to provide basic service people need and get them on the road quickly," Love Meyer said.

The Aurora site will be open 24/7 with a staff of six full-time employees.

The door is also open to future Love's expansion as the company recently bought five additional acres in the Woodard Subdivision, extending north and west along the interstate. "There are no firm plans at this point for that additional property, but our intent was really just to have it," Love Meyer said.
