Little Debbie introduces three new pastries

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. -- Little Debbie is introducing three new varieties of individually wrapped Danish Pastries.

These new premium, bake-shop pastries are baked with real fruit and real cream cheese fillings.

The three varieties include Little Debbie Cream Cheese Danish Pastry, made with real cream cheese; Little Debbie Berries & Cheese Danish Pastry, made with real fruit and cream cheese; and Little Debbie Apple Cinnamon Danish Pastry, filled with real apples and cinnamon.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is $1.29 for each individually wrapped Little Debbie Danish Pastry.

"Little Debbie Danish Pastries are perfect for consumers on the go who are looking for a convenient way to enjoy a bakery-fresh breakfast experience," said Chuck Clevenger, Little Debbie product manager.

McKee Foods' Little Debbie brand is a leading snack cake brand and is increasing its presence in the breakfast pastry and cookie categories. More than 138 billion Little Debbie Snacks have been sold since 1960 in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and on U.S. military bases worldwide, the company said.

The person who inspired the Little Debbie image often featured on product packages is the granddaughter of O.D. and Ruth McKee, the founders of McKee Foods, a family bakery. That little girl, now Debbie McKee-Fowler, is an executive vice president with McKee Foods and serves on its board of directors.

McKee Foods, a family bakery with annual sales of about $1.2 billion, is a privately held company based in Collegedale, Tenn. The McKee Foods story began during the height of the Great Depression when founder O.D. McKee began selling five-cent snack cakes from the back of his car. Soon after, he and his wife, Ruth, bought a small, failing bakery, using the family car as collateral. Today, the company employs more than 5,000 people. It creates and produces Little Debbie Snacks, Sunbelt snacks and cereals, Heartland and Fieldstone Bakery food products.
