CHICAGO – RxBar has voluntarily recalled 15 snack bar varieties due to an undeclared presence of peanuts. The company initiated the recall after it received multiple notices of consumers experiencing allergic reaction to its bars.

The recalled bars include Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry, Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Hazelnut, Chocolate Sea Salt, Coconut Chocolate, Coffee Chocolate, Mango Pineapple, Maple Sea Salt, Mint Chocolate, Mixed Berry and Pumpkin Spice, as well as Apple Cinnamon Raisin, Berry Blast and Chocolate Chip for RxBar Kids.

Multiple RxBar Variety Packs have been also been recalled. These include the 10-Bar Variety Pack (Blueberry, Chocolate Sea Salt, Coconut Chocolate, Peanut Butter Chocolate), two 12-Bar Variety Packs (one with Chocolate Sea Salt and Peanut Butter Chocolate, the other with Blueberry, Chocolate Sea Salt, Mixed Berry, Peanut Butter and Peanut Butter Chocolate), the 14-Bar Variety Pack (Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Sea Salt), and the 16-Bar Variety Pack (Chocolate Sea Salt and Peanut Butter Chocolate).

RxBar said this issue arose from a “specific ingredient” supplied by a third party. The energy-bar brand is no longer in business with the supplier, the company said.

This isn’t the first recall RxBar has faced due to the presence of undeclared peanuts. In December 2018, the company recalled its Chocolate Sea Salt and Coconut Chocolate flavors after discovering the ingredient in the bars.

RxBar urges consumers who have purchased any of these bars to discard them and contact the retailer where they purchased the bars or RxBar for a replacement or full refund.

With a base of egg whites, fruit and nuts, each RxBar provides 12 grams of protein and 210-220 calories. RxBars are available in 11 flavors, with additional seasonal and limited-time varieties, and they are distributed in the United States. In October 2017, the Kellogg Co., Battle Creek, Mich., acquired Chicago Bar Co. LLC, maker of RxBar, for $600 million.
