Hershey Buys Amplify; Campbell Acquires Snyder's-Lance

Two deals consolidate the snack and candy industries

CAMDEN, N.J., & HERSHEY, Pa. -- Two significant acquisitions in the snack category will consolidate the industry as Campbell Soup Co. announced it will acquire Snyder’s-Lance and the Hershey Co. entered into a deal to purchase Amplify Snack Brands Inc.

In addition to its namesake soups, Camden, N.J.-based Campbell Soup Co. is the maker of Pepperidge Farm, Bolthouse Farms, Arnott’s, V8, Swanson, Pace, Prego and several other brands of snack and food products. It is purchasing Snyder's-Lance for $50 per share in an all-cash transaction. Snyder's-Lance, based in Charlotte, N.C., manufactures and markets snack foods such as pretzels, sandwich crackers, pretzel crackers, potato chips, cookies, tortilla chips, restaurant-style crackers, popcorn, nuts and other snacks under several brands, including Snyder's of Hanover, Lance, Kettle Brand, Cape Cod, Pop Secret and more.

The Hershey Co. will acquire Amplify Snack Brands for $12 per share in cash. Austin, Texas-based Amplify Snack Brands makes and markets snack brands such as Skinny Pop, Paqui chips, Oatmega healthy snack bars and Tyrrell's potato chips. The Hershey Co., Hershey, Pa., makes chocolate, sweets, mints and other snacks under brand names such as Hershey's, Reese's, Hershey's Kisses, Jolly Rancher, Ice Breakers and Brookside.
