Carl Buddig, Old Wisconsin Meat Hurricane Challenge

Donate 66,000 lbs. sausage snack products for disaster relief

HOMEWOOD, Ill. -- To help meet the ongoing need for hurricane disaster relief, Carl Buddig & Co., along with its subsidiary Old Wisconsin Co., has donated 66,000 pounds of its sausage snack products with a value of $150,000 and $6,000 in cash. Donations were made to America's Second Harvest and the American Red Cross, respectively.

The privately held company answered the call for large-scale food donation requests made by America's Second Harvest, which is coordinating donations and deliveries from generous food companies to areas in greatest need [image-nocss] from the devastation caused by recent hurricanes during this severe-weather season.

According to America's Second Harvest, tens of thousands of former residents of New Orleans, Mississippi and Alabama remain unsure about where their next meal will come from, requiring relief organizations to continue to work round-the-clock to move millions of pounds of food. Nonperishable and highly portable food items that do not require refrigeration like the Old Wisconsin snack products are among the donations most needed to meet this ongoing need. The food items are also needed to replenish low inventories at shelters and pantries assisting in hurricane relief.

In addition to the food donation, Carl Buddig and Old Wisconsin employees donated thousands in individual contributions to hurricane relief efforts, as well as through a coordinated corporate matching donation program that raised another $6,000.

We're glad we could help with this product donation and we appreciate our employees' efforts to come forward to help the cause, said Tom Buddig, co-CEO for Carl Buddig & Co. We're really a family business and seeing so many families in such great need has made us feel like this has happened to one of our own.

America's Second Harvest is the nation's largest charitable hunger-relief organization with a network of more than 200 regional member food banks and food-rescue programs serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The America's Second Harvest Network secures and distributes nearly two billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually.

Carl Buddig, Homewood, Ill., offers thin-sliced meats for sandwiches, snacks and special recipes. Old Wisconsin Sausage Co. has crafted a variety of naturally cured and smoked sausage and beef products, which are available throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Old Wisconsin Sausage Co., a division of Carl Buddig & Co., is privately held and located in Sheboygan, Wis.
