LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- As part of a strategic review, Thorntons Inc. has announced a decision to sell eight of the company’s convenience stores as part of a strategic review.
As reported in a 21st Century Smoke/CSP Daily News Flash, Thorntons will continue to operate all eight stores until it identifies a buyer.
"After thorough review and consideration … we believe this is a necessary step to best position the company to achieve our long-term strategic goals," Thorntons said in a statement provided to CSP Daily News. "The sale of these eight stores is consistent with our process of evaluating and repositioning our portfolio each year."
The company added, "This transition will be seamless for our guests, team members and vendor partners. As always, our guests and team members are our top priority. The team members at these stores will have the opportunity to transfer to another location within the company or, as part of the sale, will potentially work for the new owner."
According to a report by WTHI-TV, three of the stores are located in Terre Haute, Ind. The company said it will not name the locations of the stores until they are sold. These eight c-stores are the only ones up for sale with this review, a Thorntons spokesperson told CSP Daily News.
Based in Louisville, Ky., Thorntons operates approximately 180 gasoline and convenience stores, car washes and travel plazas in six states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida.
