WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — EG America Inc. is selling its Minit Mart convenience-stores in Wisconsin and Minnesota and exiting those markets, CSP Daily News has learned. “Over the next few weeks, we will be selling seven stores in Wisconsin to Stop N Shop LLC,” the company said in a statement. “We are also in the process of selling our remaining stores in Minnesota and Wisconsin.”

Meanwhile, KornerStores Inc. and Edwards Oil Inc. are purchasing 26 Minit Mart convenience stores in Minnesota and Wisconsin from EG America, according to a report by the Duluth News Tribune. The two companies will split ownership of the locations, said the report. The transition will take place at the end of February, KornerStores confirmed for the newspaper.

EG America declined to offer further details on the Stop N Shop deal and did not confirm the sales to KornerStores and Edwards Oil.

  • EG America is No. 5 on CSP’s 2021 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by number of company-owned retail outlets.

EG America, the U.S. unit of Blackburn, U.K.-based EG Group, acquired TravelCenters of America’s Minit Mart convenience-store business for approximately $330.8 million in 2018. The portfolio included 225 c-stores. The sale allowed Westlake, Ohio-based TA to exit the standalone c-store business and focus on its core travel-center business.

Founded in 2001 by the Issa Family, Blackburn, U.K.-based EG Group is a gasoline forecourt and retail convenience operator with more than 6,200 sites across the United Kingdom and Ireland, Europe, the United States and Australia. In 2018, EG Group established itself in The United States as EG America by acquiring Kroger’s 762-site c-store network. Among other acquisitions, in 2019, EG Group also acquired Cumberland Farms and its nearly 660 c-stores in the Northeast and Florida, and EG America now has its headquarters in Westborough, Mass.

Stop N Shop is based in Milwaukee. Duluth, Minn.-based KornerStores is owned by Derek Medved. The Skalco family owns Virginia, Minn.-based Edwards Oil. It operates five Lucky Seven General Stores on the Iron Range in northwestern Minnesota.
