TEMPLE, Texas -- Taking a cue from "what the customer wants," McLane Co. Inc. is adding five new private-label brands of better-for-you products for people and pets, and renaming its private-label company to CVP. The umbrella company was previously known as Salado Sales.
The new products are set for a full launch Jan. 1, 2017, and were on display at the distributor's national trade show, Aug. 31 through Sept. 1 in Grapevine, Texas.
CVP products are "equal to or better than name brands for a lower price and higher margins," and are available only to McLane customers, said Teresa Voelter, general manager of private label for McLane. She told CSP Daily News that the new lines are all part of the company's focus on creating the products customers want to see. "Today, they want clean ingredients, healthier options," she said. Consumers also want the option to purchase quality store-branded products at a reasonable price, "so it made sense for us to up our commitment to private label.”
The Temple, Texas-based company said it plans to roll out additional new products under the CVP family of brands in 2017. A search tool on the new CVP website will be available for consumers to find products sold at retailer locations, which includes convenience stores, mass merchants and drug stores. Current CVP private-label products WorkFare and Road-Tech will continue to be available.
Colorful packaging of candies, including gummy, chocolate and hard candy, tells the story of the Yum Bees discovered in an enchanted forest. Instead of making a "buzz" sound, they made a "yumm" sound, according to the legend created by the McLane marketing team. A website tells the YumBees story.
The new brand, Excursion Jerky, replaces Double S jerky in the McLane product offerings. Excursion Jerky is manufactured by Oberto.
A new line of Hometown Market snacks includes banana nut granola, nuts, trail mix and yogurt pretzels, as well as sugar and creamer, that support convenience-store foodservice operations. Two of the products meet the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) healthy criteria.
McLane's CVP-line of purified bottled water supports the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) organization’s “Drink Up” initiative to help promote more consumption of water. The water line is to be sold in individual bottles and 24-packs. Bottles are 100% recyclable.
Dog treats are packaged in various flavors, including peanut butter and yogurt and cranberry, or a variety pack. Heart-shaped biscuits indicate the treats are wheat- and gluten-free, offering pets the same health considerations demanded by humans. Packages tell the story of Beau, a little pup with a big personality.
