Western Refining Fuel Foul Up

Nearly 40 gas stations serve up gas mixed with diesel after terminal goof

SANTA FE, N.M. -- Western Refining Inc. is removing gasoline mixed with diesel fuel from a number of gas stations in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, N.M., and replacing it with the proper fuel, a company spokesperson told The El Paso Times.

The fuel problem has caused mechanical problems for hundreds of motorists who filled their tanks with the mixed fuel.

Western Refining spokesperson Leland Gould said the fuels were accidentally mixed in a tank at a Giant Industries Albuquerque pipeline terminal. The mixed fuel was delivered to nearly 40 retail and wholesale locations, he said.

Gould [image-nocss] said the company was notified of the mistake late last Tuesday. "We are working with out customers and local repair shops to make sure any of their customers that have been impacted have been taken care of," he told the newspaper.

According to a report by KOAT-TV, Costco management said for six hours on Tuesday, all three of its stations in Albuquerque served the fuel. Costco said it will help customers whose cars were damaged by the fuel switch. Shell said the problem affected 17 of its stations.
