Sunoco Offering Biodiesel Blends on N.J. Turnpike, Garden State Parkway

Ultra-low-sulfur diesel provided along toll roads will contain 2% biodiesel
PHILADELPHIA -- Sunoco Inc. said yesterday that customers are now able to refuel with biodiesel blends at several New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway service plazas. The ultra-low-sulfur diesel provided along the toll roads will contain 2% biodiesel.

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that can be made from vegetable oils, recycled greases or animal fat. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), biodiesel blends can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and can help reduce vehicle emissions. Most diesel engine manufacturers approve using up to 5% biodiesel.[image-nocss]

Biodiesel blends are available at six service plazas on the New Jersey Turnpike and five service plazas on the Garden State Parkway.

Sunoco said in January that it reached an agreement with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and Getty Petroleum Marketing Inc. to begin operating the nine fuel stations at service plazas along the Garden State Parkway, one of the most heavily traveled roads in the nation. The new six-year agreement begins January 2011 and runs through December 2016.

In addition to the Garden State Parkway agreement, Sunoco currently provides fuel along several other major toll roads, including the Atlantic City Expressway, Delaware Turnpike, Maryland Turnpike, New Jersey Turnpike, New York Thruway, and Ohio Turnpike, Palisades Parkway and Pennsylvania Turnpike.
