Fighting Fuel Loss

Gilbarco's Daily Loss Advisor helps locate problems

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco Veeder-Root introduced Daily Loss Advisor, the newest service from Fuel Management Services that applies technology and a dedicated analyst to help petroleum retailers identify their sources of fuel loss and improve profitability.

The service polls information from the site on an hourly basis and applies algorithms to pre-screen the information for review by the assigned dedicated analyst. The analyst investigates potential fuel-loss sources on a daily basis and makes specific recommendations to the retailer to eliminate [image-nocss] the root causes. After the interventions have been implemented, the analyst monitors the results.

Fuel loss is one of the most significant and rapidly increasing costs for a petroleum retailer, said Greg Sears, Gilbarco Veeder-Root's director of marketing, FMS services. As the price of fuel increases, a retailer's ability to manage the controllable sources of fuel loss can make a significant impact to his or her overall profitability and competitiveness.

Sears said about half of fuel variances are real losses with root causes that are correctable. These include shortages on fuel deliveries, meters that need to be recalibrated, blend ratio errors, and many others.

Daily Loss Advisor is an exception-based management process that documents and focuses corrective actions on specific problems and sites. By eliminating noise variables such as temperature, meter mapping, and tank chart error, Daily Loss Advisor saves customers the effort spent today reconciling book losses and allows more energy to be focused on solving real issues.

The service also includes a one-time site checkup to assure that the source information from the site is of the highest quality to enable the most efficient analysis.

Greensboro, N.C-based Gilbarco Veeder-Root is a supplier of integrated fuel control, site management and support services for petroleum marketers and commercial fueling enterprises worldwide.
