BBB Flunks MyGallons

Discount program fudged network affiliation, availability

MIAMI -- The MyGallons.com website and gasoline discount program announced earlier this month has come under fire from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). MyGallons users pay an annual fee to pre-purchase gallons of gasoline at its current price, then use a MyGallons card at gas stations at a later date to get the gallons they paid for at the price they initially paid for it. The program claimed to have a deal with the Voyager fleet network, owned by US Bank, which is accepted at more than 95% of gas stations nationwide.

Visitors to the site now are greeted with this message: "MyGallons [image-nocss] has learned that its prior vendor, GoGas Fleet, the reselling partner for US Bank's Voyager Network, is no longer able to honor our agreement to provide its services to our members. MyGallons is currently in negotiations to team with one of the competing national payment networks to support our exciting program to ease the pain of rising gas prices."

MyGallons currently has no way to process bank card payments, according to a MyFox report. A US Bank spokesperson told the BBB that the financial institution had actually declined to work with MyGallons. Subsequently, the BBB gave the company an "F" rating, citing "a material omission of fact."

"They're saying to the public, here are the gas stations where you can go and use this card. Yet there's no ability for the card to be utilized," Florida BBB vice president Michael Galvin told The Los Angeles Times.

MyGallons.com is still currently accepting new signups, the report said.
