CHICAGO — As Veterans Day approaches, convenience-store and truckstop chains around the country are tweaking their daily food specials to salute the armed forces.
Here are some of the places where former and current military members can get a food deal for Veterans Day …
Sheetz, Altoona, Pa., will offer all veterans and active duty military members a free meal and car wash on Veterans Day. The meal includes a half turkey sub sandwich and a regular size fountain drink. Military ID or proof of service must be presented to qualify.
TravelCenters of America, Westlake, Ohio, will offer all active-duty military, veterans and reservists a free meal at its Country Pride and Iron Skillet locations inside its TA, Petro Stopping Centers and TA Express travel centers on Veterans Day.
Anyone who has served in the armed forces can receive a complimentary meal of their choice by showing proof of service to their restaurant server prior to ordering. Proof of service includes a U.S. Uniformed Services ID card, current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), veterans organization membership card, photograph in uniform, DD214 form, a citation or commendation.
Casey’s General Stores, Ankeny, Iowa, will offer free coffee to all current and former service members at all locations on Veterans Day. Additionally, Casey’s is also donating $1 for every online or in-app purchase of a large pizza and 2-liter Pepsi drink to military nonprofits throughout November. Casey’s will donate up to $50,000 to Hope for The Warriors and Children of Fallen Patriots.
7-Eleven, Irving, Texas, will offer a free coffee or Big Gulp drink to veterans on Nov. 11 who belong to Veterans Advantage, a group that provides military discounts and rewards to those who have served. To receive the deal, service members must download the 7-Eleven app and register with Veterans Advantage.
On Veterans Day, Wawa Inc. will offer free coffee of any size to veterans, active military members and their families, all day, at all of its stores with no military ID required.
For the 10th year, the Wawa, Pa.-based chain will also provide troops abroad with coffee care packages. Operation Taste of Home is an annual tradition. Wawa associates and members of the USO, Air National Guard and Army National Guard will assemble more than 5,000 care packages. The event will include social distancing, health screenings, assembly shifts and face coverings.
The Wawa Foundation will present a check to the USO for $763,332 raised through in-store coin and scan campaigns, including a $50,000 scan match from the foundation.The funds go to programs supporting the military and their families and are distributed to the local USO centers located throughout Wawa’s operating area.
