CHICAGO  Convenience-store retailers can create eye-catching pizzas by getting a little daring with their pizza toppings—and bringing in a known brand in the endeavor.

For example, Chicago food legends Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria and Portillo’s have teamed up on a deep-dish butter-crust pie with Italian beef, CSP sister publication Restaurant Business reported.

Via Taste of Chicago, a food-shipping company, the pizza can be mailed nationwide. The nine-inch pie also can be topped with Portillo’s sweet peppers or giardiniera.

In a statement, owner Marc Malnati said, “The only way we knew to top ourselves was to top our pizzas with the famous flavors of Portillo’s.”

Lou Malnati’s was founded in 1971, Portillo’s in 1963.
