CHICAGO  Looking for fresh ideas to spice up a foodservice program? Magical recipes might be closer than a retailer thinks by holding a contest among store employees, according to a FoodService Director report.

Au Bon Pain recently hosted its first-ever “Sandwich Madness” contest, challenging its 3,000 employees in 119 locations to conceive recipes with ingredients currently in its supply chain.

“By tapping our employees and their creativity, we can offer new, craveable sandwiches without straining resources,” Au Bon Pain Corporate Chef Anne Riley said.

Sandwich makers, café workers and bakers were involved in the contest, which promoted team building.

The two winners, the Cleveland Fireside Egg Sandwich and the Ranchero Wrap, will be released as limited-time offers (LTOs) late in 2022.
