Starbucks Reveals College Students’ Favorite Beverages

Their taste preferences might be emblematic of growing trends

SEATTLE -- Students attending college in the Midwest love Triple Grande Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Lattes.

This fact and more was revealed when Starbucks last week released which of its drinks are the most popular with college students in different regions.

According to the results, students in the Southeast prefer a Starbucks Doubleshot on ice, while those in the Northeast like White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccinos with an espresso shot. In the Southwest, the Iced Triple Grande Coconut Milk Latte is a fan favorite.

The overall winner, however, is the Espresso Frappuccino, which the coffee chain said is a top choice of students across the country.

These college students’ palates might be barometers for emerging coffee trends across the country. Coconut, for instance, is one of the fastest-growing coffee flavors in the U.S., according to CSP sister data firm Technomic’s most recent Coffee Menu Trends report. Besides coconut milk, condensed milk is also gaining steam on menus, with 2% of foodservice operators menuing coffee items containing condensed milk, the report said.

Starbucks is a Seattle-based coffee retailer with more than 28,000 stores.
