Speedway Rebrands Gas City Sites

Converts stations purchased at auction; closes Dunkin' Donuts units

FRANKFORT, Ill. -- Gas City gas stations and convenience stores acquired by Speedway at last month's bankruptcy auction closed last Thursday and reopened Friday under their new name, reported The Mokena Patch. Speedway's website now lists all of the former Gas City locations as Speedway locations.

The Gas City locations that will be converted to Speedways are in Darien, Frankfort (4), Homer Glen (3), Mokena (2), Naperville, New Lenox (2), Oswego, Romeoville, Shorewood and Tinley Park, Ill.

Last month, Frankfort, Ill.-based Gas City auctioned off its 50 [image-nocss] stations in Illinois, Indiana, Florida and Arizona as part of the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in order to pay off debts.

Gas City employees said they expected that Gas City Gold Card reward points would be converted to Speedway's Speedy Rewards program if cardholders turn in their Gold Cards, the report said.

And Speedway will not keep open the Dunkin' Donuts located inside the stations, added a report by TRCB News.

Speedway LLC, headquartered in Enon, Ohio, is the nation's fourth largest company-owned and -operated convenience store chain with approximately 1,350 stores located in seven states in the Midwest. Speedway is a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corp.
