CARY, N.C. -- The Pantry Inc., which operates the Kangaroo Express convenience stores, has announced that it will celebrate National Hot Dog Day on July 23. As a token of appreciation for the U.S. armed services, Kangaroo Express will offer a free hot dog to any customer with a military ID that stops by its nearly 1,200 grill-ready Kangaroo Express convenience stores between 6:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
Also, customers who present the Kangaroo Express mobile app on their phone will receive a coupon voucher for a free hot dog.
Customers can also stop by any participating Kangaroo Express on July 23 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. to buy 50-cent Ball Park hot dogs (limit four per guest). Paired with a ROO Cup refill, customers can pick up a hot dog and a drink for 75 cents.
"With more than one-third of our employees having a direct connection to the military, we are proud to support the military community all year long and are continually inspired by the generosity of our guests," said Gordon Schmidt, senior vice president of operations for Kangaroo Express. "We invite our guests to help us add a side of patriotic relish to National Hot Dog Day by enjoying an all-American classic and supporting the troops who protect our freedom every day."
Donations from the campaign will support the American Red Cross Service to armed forces, providing emergency communications, comfort and assistance to military, veterans and their families; Fisher House Foundation, donating "comfort homes" at major military and VA medical centers that enable military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization; the United States Veterans Corps, a corps of military veterans, spouses, dependents and patriotic citizens performing hands on community service with a mission and deployment attitude, as well as six state-based military support organizations.
As of May 1, 2014, The Pantry, Cary, N.C., operated 1,534 convenience stores in 13 states, mostly under the Kangaroo Express banner.
