TRACY, Calif. --7-Eleven convenience stores in several states are among the retail outlets affected by Taylor Farms Pacific Inc.'s recall of products that may include celery that could potentially contain E. coli 0157:H7.
Other retails named in the recall include Costco, King Sooper, Pantry (California), Raley's, Savemart, Tony's, Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Starbucks, Target, Walmart and Sam's Club.
The Tracy, Calif.-based foodservice company said it is recalling the products "out of an abundance of caution due to a celery and onion diced blend testing positive for E. coli 0157:H7 in a sample taken by the Montana Department of Health."
The celery and onion diced blend the state of Montana tested was used in a Costco Rotisserie Chicken Salad that has been linked to a multi-state E. coli outbreak.
Escherichia coli O157:H7 is a bacterium that causes a diarrheal illness often with bloody stools. Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. The condition can lead to serious kidney damage and even death.
7-Eleven sells the Fresh To Go Bistro Snack 1/7.5-ounce tray, and the recall lists stores in California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon and Colorado.
This recall is being conducted in coordination with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
