"While closing Amici was a difficult decision, we would like to thank our loyal customers and associates for their support over the years. Our last day of business will be Friday, Dec. 13," Megan Elfers, director of marketing and communications for convenience retailer Kum & Go, said in a statement provided to CSP Daily News.

She would not provide additional details.

While visiting Italy, the company founders "learned to savor the rich taste of espresso, as well as the Italian lifestyle," the retailer said on the cafe chain's website. "Vowing to bring the flavorful espresso experience back to the U.S., they launched Amici Espresso in September 2005."

The Grimes location opening in April 2006, while the downtown Amici opened its doors in Sept. 2006, the newspaper said.
