DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc. has confirmed a report by Vegan.com that the convenience chain has rolled out four vegan meals at about 100 locations in the northeastern United States.
The meals are:
- Vegan Linguine Tikka Massala.
- Vegan Pad Thai Noodles.
- Vegan Asian Linguine.
- Vegan Spinach Noodles with Vegetable.
Late last year, 7-Eleven launched a pilot program at eight New York City stores that featured four other ready-to-eat vegan meals--artichoke spinach noodles, vegetable lo mein and two types of dumplings, all minus meat, egg or dairy--priced at $6 each.
"It seems clear that they sold well enough to convince the company to take the next step," Vegan.com said.
According to a report last year by the Dallas Observer, the project was spearheaded by Janice Tancredi, 7-Eleven's Philadelphia market manager, a vegetarian. Tancredi started stocking Philadelphia-area stores with vegan sandwiches fin 2008.
