The Storm Breaks

As economic freefall slows, retailers refocus on convenience.

Most retailers participating in the 2009 Outlook Survey believe the economy has hit bottom. More than half expect “some improvement” to conditions in 2010, and 30.2% expect more of the same. Meanwhile, more than 7% see “great improvement” coming.

Close to 9% of respondents for this year’s survey rated current business  conditions as “poor.” It’s a marked improvement from 2008, when nearly 20% of participants rated conditions “poor,” and one-fifth anticipated a decline in conditions.
