A Crisis in the C-Store

As the opioid epidemic swells, a burden falls on convenience retailers

The opioid epidemic does not discriminate between small and large retailers, those in big cities or those in farm country, players with sophisticated foodservice programs or those with more traditional smokes-and-Cokes offers.

Nearly 94% of the respondents to a CSP retailer survey on opioids say they see evidence of drug use in their stores, and most of those retailers say the activity has increased in the past five years.

The crisis has turned the convenience-store industry’s restrooms, one of its greatest assets, into a risk-management nightmare. CSP delves into the issue and looks at possible solutions.
